Depends on your reason. BOM 098017 shows a cool maritime year: February driest/warmest on average, July wettest and coolest on the mean-maximum line. Visit and the season guide.
Is it a day trip?
A bad default. See the journal note.

This website
Is this the council?
No. kingisland.tas.gov.au.
Is this official tourism?
No. kingisland.org.au.
Is this King Island Dairy?
No. The domain once hosted that brand. About and Produce.
Do you sell King Island tours?
No. This site does not take on-island bookings or tee times. Planning pages may carry sponsored GetYourGuide links for Hobart / mainland Tasmania day trips (Bruny, Port Arthur, Freycinet). Those are not King Island products. Details: Privacy.
How can I contact the publisher?
Contact — FormSubmit to the editorial inbox. Hosted on Vercel. Not a visitor centre.
How do I pitch a guest post?
Guest posts and the pitch guide.
What should I read before booking?
This page, Getting here, Visit, Stay, then official sources. If a number matters to money or safety, read the citation, not just our sentence.
Money questions we will not answer
How much does King Island cost?
Whatever your airline, hire desk and host charge this week. We will not invent a daily budget.
Is it cheaper than Barnbougle / a mainland links trip?
That is a comparison of live products. We are not a broker.
What’s the cheapest month?
Demand language from official tourism points at holidays and events, not at a discount code.
Safety questions we will only redirect
Can I swim? Can I climb the light? Can I drive at night?
See Beaches, History, and Parks’ wildlife sentence. This FAQ will not give you a dare.
How this FAQ relates to the hubs
Every short answer here is a pointer. The home page answers “what is it famous for.” Getting here answers the plane. Visit answers the month. Stay answers the bed. Produce answers the cheese-without-being-the-dairy problem. Golf answers the three-course official list. About answers who is speaking. If you only send one URL to a travelling companion, send this page and tell them to click once.
Corrections
If an official source has moved and our short answer has not, that is a contact email with the new URL. We would rather update a sentence than defend a stale one.
Independence, once more
This FAQ is not King Island Council and not King Island Tourism. Official answers about roads, bookings and permits live on their sites. Our answers are how to read those sites without inventing a ferry or a price.
Produce and golf, in the short form
Is this still King Island Dairy?
No. The 2009 Wayback snapshot of this domain was a brand homepage. Produce is the visitor-guide essay. About is the independence statement. Official product pages belong to the brand that owns them.
Which golf courses are on King Island?
Tourism Tasmania’s 2026 golf fact sheet describes three public-access courses: Cape Wickham Links, the west-coast 18-hole course published there as Ocean Dunes (King Island Tourism also uses King Links), and King Island Golf & Bowling Club. Rankings move. We quote the fact sheet. Golf.
Do I need a car?
Official planning pages say there is no public transport, taxi or rideshare, and that you should arrange a hire car before you fly. Getting here and Self-drive.
Biosecurity and packing
Can I bring golf shoes and fruit?
Biosecurity Tasmania decides. Official visitor planning already asks you to arrive with clean, dry sporting gear free of soil and weed seed. Packing.
What should I pack?
A real wind shell, a warm layer, shoes you can wet, prescriptions you cannot replace locally, and a first-night food plan. BOM 098017 is a cool maritime year even in February.
Towns, walks, history
Currie, Grassy or Naracoopa?
Currie is the official measuring stick (airport about ten minutes away; Parks starts the Calcified Forest from Currie). Grassy is named with Currie for fuel. Naracoopa is an east-coast village we will not over-describe. Towns.
What walk can you actually specify?
Parks Tasmania’s Calcified Forest: 1.3 km, about 30 minutes return, Grade 2, 30 km from Currie. Beaches & walks.
Why so many wrecks?
AMSA places the island on the western entrance to Bass Strait and names Cape Wickham (1861, 48 m, tallest lighthouse in Australia) and the Cataraqui (400 lives). History.
Questions people actually ask
What should I read before booking anything?
Read Getting here (air only for most visitors, book a car), Visit (BOM seasonality), Stay (choose a base, confirm after-hours access), and this FAQ. Then confirm flights, beds and hire on official or operator pages. This site does not take bookings.
